Nothing says Spring or Summer like a tall glass of ice cold ….. Blood Orange Lemonade!
After a quick 2 day get away to our favorite place (San Clemente, CA.) a few weekends ago, I have been trying to find the time to post this recipe. While there we went to the local farmers market before heading home. I found the juiciest, sweetest fresh Blood Oranges ever! No…seriously! Just look at the juice from them, by just the first cut.
This recipe has been made several times (3) and every time, it doesn’t last long! It is so refreshing, tart & tangy with just the right amount of sweetness. I never knew just how much I loved Blood Oranges until now. I’m addicted. This will be my Summer drink for sure. * I like to make this a night before I plan on serving it, so the simple syrup has time to cool and thicken.
BLOOD ORANGE LEMONADE
* This makes 1/2 Gallon
1 Cup Fresh squeezed Blood Orange Juice
1/2 Cup Fresh squeezed Orange Juice
1 Cup Fresh squeezed Lemon Juice
1/2 Cup Fresh squeezed Lime Juice
1 1/2 Cup Sugar
1 1/2 Cup Water
Start by making your simple syrup. To do that combine the sugar and water together in a small sauce pan, stirring over low heat until all the sugar is dissolved. Take off heat and let it cool completely. This is where I like to pour it into a jar and place it into the fridge to chill overnight. While the simple syrup is cooling, Start juicing !!
After juicing , pour all the juice together into a large jar or pitcher to store and chill in fridge overnight.
DO NOT add in the simple syrup until the next day.
I promise you that if you wait until the next day it will be worth it.
Sooooooo…. the next day 😉 combine the simple syrup and juice together, shake well! Now add in additional ice cold water to your desired taste. For me and my family we liked adding in 3 to 3 1/2 Cups. It all depends on how tart you want it.
Serve over ice with a slice of blood orange for garnish. *If you want a little ZING try adding in some Sprite or Ginger ale.
Have a Refreshing Day!
