Now is the perfect time of the year to do some canning. You don’t have to worry that the canning process will heat up your kitchen as it would during the hot Summer months. With it being cold outside, you want to spend more time indoors where it is nice and warm right? Why not do something productive while being “shut up inside”?! This Apple Pie Butter will fill your home with a sweet comforting smell of apples and cinnamon. With it being done in a slow cooker, you can even cook this up as you sleep!
Slow Cooker Apple Pie Butter
6 lbs. Granny Smith or Fuji Apples~ peeled/cored/diced
1 Cup Apple Cider
2 Cups Brown Sugar
1 TBSP Apple Pie Spice
2 teaspoons Cinnamon
3 TBSP. Butter
Lightly spray non stick cooking spray in your slow cooker. Combine all ingredients together.
Place your slow cooker heat setting on low for 8 hours. (I like to stir it once or twice during this cooking process. However you do not need to.) Let the mixture cool completely before you blend. You can use a hand held blender, food processor or a standard blender to do this. If you desire a thicker consistency then you may want to reserve half of the liquid and add as needed to the blended apples.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month. If you wish to make it shelf safe, you will need to steam or hot water bath process it. You can serve this delicious Apple Pie Butter the same as you would jam/jelly. It can also be used as a filling in cakes and sweet rolls.
Enjoy the cooler month’s while making something special! ~Lark
